The Persian New Year (Norouz). Shahab Tolouie quartet.

On Sunday March 21st 2010, at 19:30 in the ABC Theatre, a unique music event will be taking place.  LEGENDS OF THE CZECH MUSIC SCENE will, for the first time, celebrate THE PERSIAN NEW YEAR, which traditionally falls on the first day of spring.
Norouz (from the Persian ‘New Day’), is celebrated around the world by more than 300 million people. The inspiration to organise Persian New Year festivities in the heart of Europe initially came to Iranian virtuoso guitarist and singer Shahab Tolouie in 2009. Accordingly, on the occasion of the inaugural Persian New Year celebrations in Prague, he baptized his debut CD “Tango Perso”, which hugely successful collection has attracted the keen interest of some of the world’s most influential media: BBC TV (UK), and Voice of America (USA).

NOROUZ ( From Persian - New day, the Iranian New Year celebration) in early 2010 was officially included in the United Nations calendar. Today, nearly 300 million people around the world celebrate the first day of spring as their new year. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. The term Norouz in written first appeared in Persian records in the second century AD, but it was also an important day during the time of the Achaemenids (c. 648-330 BC), where kings from different nations under the Persian empire used to bring gifts to the emperor of Persia on Norouz.
